Duxford Imperial War Museum is home to Europe's largest collection of military and civilian aircraft. All of the classics are here: Spitfire, Lancaster, Bristol Fighter to Vulcan bomber, Mustang fighters from WW2 to the imposing B-52 bombers that pounded the Vietnamese jungles.
The American collection is housed in one of the boldest buildings in England - a hanger with an 18m tall glass wall designed by Norman Foster. It has been dedicated as a memorial to the 30,000 American airmen who died while flying wartime missions from England.
The aerodrome itself is still fully active and is used primarily for general civilian aviation. Duxford has many "fly-in" days where you're invited to fly in for an open weekend, if you're a pilot that is
