Flag Fen is a Bronze Age site which probably had religious significance and comprises over 1,000,000 timbers arranged in five very long rows about a kilometer long. It connects Whittlesey Island with Peterborough across the wet fenland. The site has been dated to around 1365BC - 967BC a period during which there was large environmental changes occurring.
The site has been perfectly preserved due to being covered in air free soil which had accumulated over the many years - this prevented the timbers from rotting away.
The attraction has a well-organised visitor centre with museum and exhibitions with 2 reconstruction round houses from the Bronze age and one from the Iron age.
