Take a stroll through the beech woods of Dorset and happen upon the Birthplace of Thomas Hardy, the great Victorian writer.
Step inside and be transported back to Hardy's time - everything is much as it was in his day, including the bedroom in which he was thrown aside as dead at birth. English literature is fortunate that the nurse saved the infant with her famous words:
"Dead? Stop a minute,. He's alive enough, sure"
Hardy's death was as bizarre as his birth. Before his body was cremated his heart was removed and buried in Stinsford Churchyard - his ashes taken to Poet's corner in Westminster Abbey.
