Alton Towers
Attracting nearly 3 million tourists a year, Alton Towers is one of England's largest and best loved tourist attractions.

The park is located in the grounds of a semi-ruined gothic revival country house and includes two hotels, a water park, a golf course, a conference centre and a spa.

England's best known roller coasters are all here including: Nemesis, Europe's first inverted roller coaster, Oblivion, the world's first vertical drop roller coaster, Air, the world's first B&M flying roller coaster and Rita - Queen of Speed, a launched roller coaster which accelerates to 100 km/h (60 mph) in approximately 2.2 seconds.

There are rides and attractions here though for all ages, from child up to senior. There is a farm yard for children to visit as well as plenty of traditional fairground rides. For those with a nervous disposition, you can relax with a row on the lake, walk in the scenic gardens, or enjoy a leisurely ride on the monorail and cable cars.

    • Great day out - you'll need more than a day to get around everything though ... so much to see and do.

    • Queues, queues, queues!
Go off peak otherwise you spend most of the day and ticket price waiting in a line. The rides are great though, but we waited for 2 hours for a 30 second ride on Oblivion!
